SAHUARITA, AZ – April 28, 2025 – Nearly 300 runners and walkers of all ages, from 5 to 86, gathered under the orchard canopy this past Saturday for the 13th Annual Nut Run—a beloved community event that promotes wellness, togetherness, and local giving. The event is part of the long-standing Pecan Orchard Run Series, which has taken place in Sahuarita for over a decade.
With a scenic course winding through the pecan trees and a family-friendly atmosphere, the 2025 Nut Run proved once again to be more than just a race—it was a celebration of local spirit. Proceeds from the event will benefit local nonprofits, including the Green Valley Firefighters Association and the Sahuarita and Walden Grove High School cross country and photography programs.
“Our goal with the Nut Run is simple: to keep our connection with the community strong,” said Paula Beemer, event organizer. “After the closure of the Pecan Store and Festival, we wanted to continue welcoming people to the orchard in a meaningful way—and this event lets us do exactly that.”
The success of the Nut Run was made possible by the contributions of over 30 volunteers and generous support from local businesses and sponsors, including:
Sprinkler World, Days Excavating, Western Blend, Ben Duncan Edward Jones, Desert Diamond Casino, Farmers Business Network (FBN), Avid Water, Greater Green Valley Community Foundation, Empire Cat, The Optimist Club, Green Valley Cooling and Heating, FICO, and The Running Shop.
Participants also enjoyed a delicious post-race pancake breakfast cooked up by the Green Valley Firefighter Association. Top runners were recognized across male and female categories, and thanks to the talented Sahuarita High School photography students, highlights from the event were beautifully captured and shared with the public.
With two races still remaining in the Orchard Series this year, the momentum and excitement are high. Registration is now open for the next event—Breeze in the Trees 5K—taking place on Saturday, July 26.
